Wondering what you can do for your customers facing cancer diagnosis? Lets take a look at the example Lloyds Bank is setting.
On the way home from work today I was listening to 5live which is my usual radio station of choice and I was highly impressed by the new service Lloyds Bank has introduced to its customers with cancer.
Essentially, Lloyds has recognised that when somebody is diagnosed with cancer and has to face quite daunting treatment such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy, things which ordinarily would be quite important such as managing the finances fall by the wayside as the individual focuses fully on their health. In addition, the last thing somebody with cancer wants to face, say for example after a session of chemotherapy (which is highly draining) is to ring up their bank and first of all have to wait, but then be asked to remember their 16 digit password and other security details to simply be assisted with their query! Lloyds have realised this reality for their customers who have cancer and in response have established their Cancer Support Team.
What’s more impressive is that Lloyds have provided Macmillan Cancer Support training to all of their employees working in the team to ensure they are sensitive to the needs of their customers with cancer. The service is broad-ranging; not only can customers gain practical advice on their personal banking, but they may also be able to access financial support such as mortgage payment holidays. The number to call is 0800 015 0016, it’s free and the service is open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
This a highly thoughtful and innovative scheme from Lloyds Bank and I do hope other banks follow suit in the near future (note that Nationwide Building Society is the only other financial institution in the UK which operates a similar scheme). Use the link below to access Lloyds Bank’s official web page where you will also be able to listen to Tracy Jameson’s story as well as gain an insight into how the scheme works when you call. Thumbs up to Lloyds Bank from me!
